Maxim Gerbel

Maxim Gerbel was born on July 25th, 1979, in Krasnodar. He received his first formal training at the School of Arts of Krasnodar from 1990 to 1994. Upon completion of the program at the School of Arts in 1994, he entered the Krasnodar Art School majoring in design. In 1995 he switched majors to painting, which he finished in 2000. His desire for perfecting his professional skills took him to St. Petersburg, where in late 2000 he began his studies at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, also called the Repin Academy. The Repin is one of the oldest and most prestigious educational institutions in Russia, founded in the middle of the XVIII century. In 2006, Gerbel finished his training in monumental painting using masterful techniques under the direction of Professor A. A. Mylnikov, the academician, a member of the Russian Academy of Arts.

Besides Maxim Gerbel’s extensive training in painting, he has also mastered the techniques employed in the arts of lithograph, mosaic and fresco.

Gerbel spent six years in a monumental workshop were the formation of his art outlook took its shape – an important time for him. He developed his own individual process of composite thinking. He feels and imagines the images thoughtfully. The process of training under the direction of Mylnikov was integral to the creative search of the artist.

Maxim pays close attention to the composite construction of his paintings. In his opinion, it is one of the major components of expressiveness of a canvas. There is also an emotional perception on behalf of the spectator taking in the painting as a whole and the idea incorporated in it. Imposing, overlapping, connecting - Maxim Gerbel`s basic creative method. Harmoniously combining in each piece essentially different art elements to comprise the complete, finished product, he achieves the maximum expressiveness of a painting.

Maxim Gerbel`s creativity can be compared to a kaleidoscope. With each turn, a set of separate elements develops and one sees a new composition. Fans eagerly await the next “turn” to see what Gerbel will present.
